Miro, congrats - your book is truly a gem! You've managed to distill the Bulgarian (or may I say Balkan) spirit with all of it's complexity and rawness into such a delicate prose. Миро, книгата ти е просто прекрасна! Поздрави от една българка в Канзас Сити!

Dear Camellia,

apologies for this late reply. Let's blame technology and spam filters! Thank you for finding the time to write me this kind note and I hope you like the stories, if you choose to read them (there will be a German edition next spring). "The Master and Margarita" is a great novel (especially the Pontius Pilate parts). Поздрави и успех с писането!

Dear Asen,

I'm so sorry your comment got burried under a pile of spam and I didn't notice it until now. I'm awfully happy to hear you've liked the stories so much, that you no longer feel completely alone. I'm here for you - we'll be insane together :-) Thank you for finding the time to drop me a line. С най-добри пожелания!

How often does one find a book written especially for him, or her? It is quite extraordinary, even uncanny, that East of the West, made sense for me, of a complex topic such as post 1989 Bulgarian immigration. Now, I don't feel completely alone, or insane for feeling the way I do.

I cannot recommend the book highly enough, and have infected enough people with the idea.

Congratulations on your book! I am also a Bulgarian native, although I haven't lived there in years. I currently live in Munich and it's the first time I come across your name - it makes me feel proud, knowing how difficult it is for Bulgarian writers to come out of our country's borders. I have a great passion for literature (personal favorite "The Master and Margarita"). Writing has been my passion since childhood and hopefully one day I will manage to write something worth publishing ;).
I will definitely buy your book - I am very interested at how you portrait those differences we all Bulgarians living abroad are so familiar with :).
Wish you all the best.

Thank you for these kind words, Betty. Thanks for finding the time to leave me this note. I'm really happy you've liked the story. I hope you enjoy the other seven in the book just as much.

Hi Miroslav, I enjoyed the story very much. There's a strong first person voice, a steady tone that's carried throughout, and the power of the some of the more horrific scenes had me holding my breath. Being of Macedonian descent, I delighted in recognising some of the references. Congratulations on a very good read. I look forward to reading your collection, East of the West.

Hi Mina,

just sent you a note on goodreads. Today has been a bit strange... not exactly surreal, but still weird. My biggest problem right now, though, is that I'm translating my stories into Bulgarian and that this translation is going painfully slowly. So this pain keeps me pretty grounded...
